Why Reading You Ask?
You know, people always ask me why I read so much. Like yeah when you have nothing to do and have spare time on your hands, we get it, but reading five or more books each month is a lot and a waste of time.
I always answer with "You have no idea what you're missing out on".
I make time for my books. I make time for reading and have been since I was little. For example, when I'm planning my days (yes I own a crazy planner and bullet journal my way through the week), I always add with a red pen "read" or "finish current book". I always try to fit reading into my daily life, because I need to , and I will tell you why.
Do you ever get the feeling that it's too much, and sometime too boring. Life I mean. Maybe too stressing or too frustrating? Do you ever over-imagine your life and get dramatic and turn your friends and the people around you into characters or villains? Okay that's probably me, and a few of you I know it. Yes I'm talking about you. Admit it. It's okay we're all dramatic sometimes.
All you've got to do is open a book and start reading. Just any book, preferably fantasy because it rocks and probably has wizardry, goblins and other exciting stuff... Okay the point is, any book, any genre, whether it's fantasy, fiction, science fiction, biography, or even a cook book. You will find yourself in that world. You just let your mind wander and get into the story, focusing on the words and trying to understand the meanings and metaphors.
If you give yourself the time and not give up on the first few pages (please don't!), you will realise that you get attached to the characters. You will find the plot reeling you in, making you want to know what will happen, disappoints you, then lifts you up again. Maybe messes with your mind or feelings (books tend to do that). But it's that. The act of thinking and feeling. That little twist. Those little words that let you leave reality, taking a detour out of the world. Probably into a chocolate fudge if you end up reading a cook book ;).
It helps and is a bliss for the mind, exciting and nurturing. You feed your mind knowledge about the facts and how the world is, and you also feed it the imagination the world lacks. You also have fun, because it IS fun, I guarantee you that you will enjoy it and will crave more.
Just look around you. You will see people on their phones and tablets, into their own worries and problems. Running after their lives. You rarely find someone with a book. But when you do. When you see someone reading a book and engrossed in it, don't you smile? I bet you do. You marvel at their emotions that light up on their faces, their feelings clear, right there in front of you.
That's the art of reading.
That's Magic!
Until the next time... Salam
