Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid - Book Thoughts Vol. 6

Daisy Jones & The Six

“Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six: The band's album Aurora came to define the rock 'n' roll era of the late seventies, and an entire generation of girls wanted to grow up to be Daisy. But no one knows the reason behind the group's split on the night of their final concert at Chicago Stadium on July 12, 1979 . . . until now.”

This book surprised me, it brings a rock band form the 70's to life in the best way possible that you can't not want to follow their story from beginning to end.

Daisy Jones & The Six started in a slow pace for me, in which I wasn’t getting into the plot and not really understanding the characters. I just couldn’t read for more than 10 minutes straight. Later by the second quarter of the book, I couldn’t put it down!

The thing about it, is that once you get the hang of the characters and the writing style, you just dive into the story, the lives of the characters, and into the exotic band that is on its rise. You just get engrossed in the 70s music scene that blows your mind. You can’t help but imagine the whole band and, in a way, hear the songs and understand where they come from. When they say “the book becomes real in your head”, they are not lying, this book makes you experience that.

I have read so many of Taylor Jenkins Read books, and currently reading “After I Do” by her, and every single time, she surprises me with her unique writing style. Daisy Jones and The Six is written in the form of interviews which gets you flying through it without even noticing. You understand the plot through each character and see how the story evolves through their thoughts. For the span of the whole book, you forget you’re reading a fictional book. It’s like the band actually exists. That’s when you know that this book is one of a kind.

I’m not going to lie and say it’s one of my favourite books, because I didn’t get the “I am caught by this book” feeling from the start, but I can’t deny that it is one of the most unique books that I really enjoyed reading. And if you’re on the lookout for a fast, crazy, nice read that also takes you back in time to the height of the rock music scene, this is the book for you.

Read away...
