Oxygen by Carol Cassella - Book Thoughts Vol 2

So here we are for a book review. I wanted to put it out there that I'm not a professional book reviewer or claim to know anything about reviewing books. But I love to talk about books (maybe a bit too much), so this blog is a way for me to share my love for books and my thoughts about them.

Here is a first stand alone one about a recent read of mine. This time it's a fiction book by Carol Cassella called Oxygen.

I came upon this book by mistake in a library, and was sitting on my shelf for a month before I picked it up. Oh how it had surprised me.

It had been a while since I got this unexpected impression of a book! I mean most of the time, I end up liking the books I read with the occasional disappointing ones, but this one I loved every second of it.

It revolves around an anaesthesiologist, Dr. Marie Heaton, who is at the top of her career that she commits her life to. Until she has to face a nightmarish operating room disaster that ends in a malpractice suit.

We follow her through this period, and how she deals with it. How the people around her play a part in it and how her heart and mind do so too. You just connect with her instantly.

I swear through the whole book, I kept imagining Grey’s Anatomy (especially since I'm still catching up on the last few seasons,,, please don't hate me haha). You can’t not feel the resemblance. It's quite amazing how you just create the world within your mind.

Anyhow, I loved how the story builds up, how Marie goes from a confident, capable doctor, to a doubtful, paranoid one. And then Joe comes in the picture, the friend that has her back and full of surprises.

Oh and one more thing. The way Cassella started the story was just unique. She went with some anatomy and fun facts about how oxygen in our body works, or more specifically the “art” of anaesthesiology. This style made me just want to keep reading.

I want to say more but I don’t want to spoil it, so please just go and read it so we can discuss it and tell you all my thoughts and unguarded feelings!!
Read Away...

Until my next thoughts,

Salam!
