Books Worth Reading - Book Thoughts Vol 1

Marhaba! Okay so with the new year starting and everyone full of motivation to start something new, or keep up with a hobby or a good old healthy habit (all that "New Year resolutions" and the "new year new me" stuff…), maybe you would want to join me on my quest of reading my way through life(wink wink)?

I will make it easier on you to pick up a good book by telling you and probably rambling about a few of my favourite ones which I think are worth reading, no matter the genre you’re interested in. These books have touched my heart and mind and will always hold a place in them as well as on my shelves.
P.s In order not to make this post too long, head over onto Goodreads to read the synopsis of each of those books to know what the story revolves around. Or maybe not, and just go into them blind and experience the magic of surprise and mystery. (I would recommend the second option and figure it out as you go along, but to each his own)

The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini

So you will probably read a blog post about my thoughts on this book in the near future, but I’m just going to say a few sentences here to give you a glimpse about my thoughts.

It’s just a simple reaction of “It has blown my mind!”. Okay Okay, it’s not that simple, and I will tell you why.

This book will make you cry! It will let you think about the world and see how it is elsewhere, especially in conflicted areas. It will make you think about life, friendship, loyalty, trust and love. How each of them can transform each and every person of us.

The characters consume a corner in your heart. You somehow feel the way they do and would want to be there with them. I have realised this the first time I read it. And yes I have read it three times already and will do so again (probably this year). The second time around, I read it with my best friend(Sam you better be reading this!) and it ended up being the start of our mini, two person reading club! It will transform you because believe me it changed my friend’s mind about reading and I’m sure it has changed many others.

Trust me when I say this, it WILL change you. At least it did to me. It’s a 10 out of 5 stars book for me and you will get it once you read. Please read it, for the love of the thing you hold most dear to your heart, read it. You won’t regret it.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

You know those self help books that are always recommended by famous people or Oprah? Well I have tried reading some of them and ended up stopping less than halfway through. It’s not because they’re not interesting. They are, and I always like the subject, but somehow I just can’t continue. Maybe it’s just not my genre or my style of writing.
Until I read Big Magic.

Well... Big Magic is one of those self help books. But the thing about it for me is that it captured me instantly because she - Elizabeth Gilbert- wrote about her experience with writing and how to find the motivation to write and be creative in general. I guess at that time, I needed this push to start,or to actually commit to writing and creating these worlds that are in mind.

She lets you into her mind and pours her experience into your mind and encourages you to just start and tells you how to go about it. How to find the time, how to find the will and how to find your creative side and explore throughout your mind.

If you need that spark to find your motivation to be creative, whether it’s writing, painting or anything else concerning something you love and would like to take a leap and go with it, just read this book and give yourself a shot. She will do the convincing.

Confess - Colleen Hoover

Now onto the romance novel that will make your heart leap and make you fall in love with love . Okay that was too much, I know I know I take it back.
You know what? No I don't, because you can’t help but love these kind of books. At least I can’t.

Confess is exceptionally beautiful in every way.
It tells a story about love, but not just one kind. You live through many kinds of love. Yes you will prefer one of them, but you can’t not sympathise with the rest, maybe not all but still. It shows the sides of love which you will ache with, You will also be happy, and sometimes leaping with joy or crying with sadness.

Nevertheless, you will find a twist that will just make it stand out! You will finish the book while not wanting to leave it, because that’s how strong it is. I remember feeling this after I finished it within one day and a half and consider it my favourite romance novel.
Besides, it has nice art inside! So that’s another reason to pick it up.

The Harry Potter Series - J.K. Rowling

Come on, it wouldn’t be a favourites’ article if I didn’t mention the Harry Potter Series. You probably agree with me, I know it, even if you just watched the movies. Yes the movies are amazing, but imagine how the books are! They are simply magic, in the very meaning of the word. PURE MAGIC I TELL YOU.

They just take you to this amazing wizardry world, meet these amazing characters, live through the adventures, and just feel the magic.

You will come to love the characters (the good and the bad.. Yeah yeah the good people more so... anyhow....). You will also start losing control and buy all related harry potter stuff haha. So, on the plus side for the people around you, it will be easier for them to find you presents! Therefore you’re welcome friends.

As to how it changed my life? it inspired the fantasy writing for me, because it created this infinite world of cool, magical and fantastical inspiration. It also shows the beautiful picture of friendship, adventures and the importance of fighting for good. Okay that is too cheesy, I know, but it doesn’t deny the truth. So go out there, get those books (preferably a hardcopy- because the feel of these books especially when they become worn out, is just the essence of reading memories) cosy up in a blanket with a mug of something hot and just dive in the Hogwarts world. Go go now!!

So I say to you : Go and read away! You will be transformed by them. Maybe tell me what you think and we can discuss them. Or not and keep it to yourself, it’s also fine as long as you enjoy them. And you will, Trust me.

Salam!

  1. First of all, I'm really enjoying your blog posts, they're very fun and engaging. second, self-help and over commercialized books are so easy to get hooked to because of their easy to follow storyline and the amount of pathos they entail. My problem with bookstores these day is that they only focus on selling these books. It's rare to see a bookstore that gives you an endeavor in your book choices. If they throw in one "weird" book in their best sellers every now and then I think the world can definitely be a better place. I'd love to hear your thoughts in this regard.

    Keep up the good stuff!

    1. Thank you so much, I'm really happy to hear that and really appreciate it !!
As to what you're saying, I totally agree. Nowadays, bookstores focus on a specific set of books and highlight them in their front selling area, therefore downgrading others and not giving them enough credit. Those other books are most probably really interesting and will capture the reader in their plot.
I also feel like the books that are focused on are getting repetitive and lack the uniqueness of others. So it's good to browse deeper and discover the "weird" books that will surprise us!
